Buffet spread at Asian Market Cafe, Fairmont Singapore.

Asian Market Cafe is a halal certified restaurant within the grounds of Fairmont Singapore which serves regional and local delicacies. During the month of Ramadan, a special buffet dinner menu is available. This dinner is priced at $90++ per adult on weekdays (Sunday to Thursday) and $94++ on weekends as compared to $45++ and $50++ per child on weekdays and weekends respectively. Fortunately, diners who pay using a DBS/POSB or OCBC card can enjoy a generous 50% discount off their total bill.

The Mandy lamb, which was a roasted whole lamb paired with basmati rice and masala gravy was delightful. This tasty dish comes with a papadum and yoghurt mint sauce to give it an authentic Middle Eastern flavour.gh any of their service crew. Drinking water was provided and diners can opt to have bandung, sour plum and teh tarik for their beverage of choice.

The seafood-on-ice selections were decent, with fresh oysters, prawns, black mussels and Venus clams available free-flow. Unlike other buffets where they limit the number of oysters per person, there was no such policy here and we enjoyed them throughout the evening.

Other chilled starters include sliced salmon sashimi, assorted Japanese sushi as well as a variety of salads including a Thai seafood salad which we enjoyed.

For those who enjoy satays, this buffet includes chicken and beef satays accompanied with peanut sauce. The satays were thick and tender and we found them to be really good.

A selection of hot food were placed in a dome food warmer. This included mutton rendang, Szechuan black pepper chicken, salted egg yolk crayfish, fish curry, baby kailan in oyster garlic sauce and garlic fried rice. This was an interesting concept but we found the dome to take up a lot of space on the table.

Our favourite from this dome was the salted egg yolk crayfish which was flavourful and we ordered a few more servings of it.

One other item we found great was the Singapore chilli crab which was paired with deep fried crispy mantou. The gravy was mildly spicy and the crabs were fresh.

To wrap up the buffet, a selection of local desserts were included such as durian pengat, nyonya kueh, pandan kaya cake, baked cheesecake, cherry tart and fresh fruits platter.

Concluding remarks: For a modest price after deducting the 50% discount, the buffet spread and quality were excellent. We strongly recommend this Ramadan special menu before it changes.
