Youtube video review: Cheapest vs Most Expensive Room | Singapore Marriott Tang Plaza Hotel

Situated in the heart of the Orchard shopping district, Singapore Marriott Tang Plaza Hotel offers various kinds of accommodation ranging from business oriented rooms to resort themed suites. The Tang Sok Kiar suite is the highest category room offered at this property and has approximately 120 sqm of indoor floor size and 86 sqm of outdoor pool terrace. This suite is situated on the fifth floor together with the M Club lounge as well as other rooms with a resort theme such as the pool terrace rooms and premier suite. From higher floors of the main building of the hotel, this suite can be seen.

Tang Sok Kiar Suite

This suite does not have a room number and upon completing the registration formalities, a staff escorted us to the room. The Tang Sok Kiar suite was situated behind the pool terrace rooms and the pool, so there was a good amount of privacy for guests staying in this room. You may check out our immersive 360-degree room tour of this suite below.

A large wooden double door greeted us which led to a welcome area with three entrances. Towards the front is the door to the main living room, to the left is a door to the kitchen and to the right is an entrance to the pool terrace area.

One unique feature that this suite has as compared to other rooms in this property is a private pool terrace. In this pool terrace of about 86 sqm, a relatively large plunge pool, a pool cabana, a couple of deck chairs and a seating area can be found. There was also a large open space behind the pool cabana and as such, this area would be ideal for a decent size gathering. There were relatively high walls enclosing this area for added privacy. The plunge pool was about 1.2m deep but does not have gradual steps leading down and so guests will need to be careful when entering it.

Guests may choose to retreat indoors to an extravagant living space. This area was large and well designed with a contemporary villa theme. An L-shaped sofa with two arm chairs comfortably sits 6 adults, who can be entertained by a 65-inch flat screen television paired with a Yamaha sound bar. Near the main door to the suite was a shoe cabinet.

Behind the living space is was the dining room equipped with a roundtable and four comfortable chairs ideal for a small group discussion or meal. To the left of this area was a half-kitchen where a refrigerator, freezer, microwave oven and coffee machine can be found. A few instant coffee sachets and TWG teabags were also provided. In the cabinets and drawers, cutleries were stored and can be used. One thing that was missing was bottled water. Adjacent to the kitchen was a guest bathroom which was simple yet functional.

The bedroom was spacious and once again, well furnished. A king sized bed can be found in the middle of the bedroom with light control switches on either side. A smaller but decent sized television was positioned in front of the bed. Also, a single seater sofa at the corner of the room allows guests to relax in a private corner overlooking the beautiful pool terrace.

Beside the door, a small work desk equipped with a telephone and writing materials was useful for guests who need to get some work done.

The bathroom has two entrances, one from either side of the bed. The bathroom has a rather open-concept feels with little privacy and natural sunlight streaming in from the glass panels above. There were two basins, each on adjacent sides which were a copy of each other. Standard bathroom amenities that you can find in any other room in this property included hand soap, mouth wash, dental kit and vanity kit. There was an oversized mirror above each basins as well as the sliding door behind to access the wardrobes. The wardrobes provided ample space to hang clothes and bedroom amenities like laundry bags, slippers and ironing set were kept here. There was also a small safe built in to the wardrobe.

Beyond this area was the wet bathroom where a large free standing oval tub can be found. A small flat screen television was mounted so that guests can enjoy watching shows while soaking. The rain shower and hand-held shower were in an adjacent room which was rather large and even had a sitting area. Meanwhile, the toilet bowl was on the opposite side of the bathtub, again without doors but a glass panel separating these two spaces.

Guests staying in this suite will receive a complimentary box of 12 chocolates delivered to the room. This is on top of the Marriott Bonvoy welcome gift offerings should guests decide not to get the 1000 bonus points.

Dining Highlights

Booking this suite entitles guests access to the M club lounge situated on the same floor. During our stay, only dinner (5.30PM - 7.30PM) and beverage (5.30PM-9.30PM) services were provided. Breakfast was also complimentary and was held at M Cafe.

Evening Cocktails and Canapés at M Club

The menu was rather extensive and changes from day to day. We recommend coming down to the lounge early to reserve a nice table by the window overlooking the pool and Orchard. The food and beverages were free-flow so feel free to order as much.

Breakfast at Marriott Cafe

Breakfast on the other hand was served at Marriott cafe, on the lobby level. The menu for the breakfast was fixed so if you are planning to stay for consecutive nights, you will need to eat the same food every morning. Nonetheless, the spread was good, with hot American breakfast and continental delights served. In addition, local favourites like prata, Dim Sum and fried rice were made available. Our favourite was the Eggs Benedict and chilli crab omelette.

Concluding remarks: The Tang Sok Kiar Suite at Singapore Marriott Tang Plaza is one of the most luxurious rooms in the city. Together with its unique villa-esque vibes in the heart of Orchard, this suite is one-of-a-kind. While the price may be a little steep, it certainly provides unbeatable value when celebrating a very special occasion or hosting a gathering to impress.
